John Acton
Trustee
John Acton is one of the founder Trustees of the Mayflower Project. He was born in Cumbria in 1948. He joined the British army in 1963 at the tender age of 15 years. He is proud to have served in many countries all over the globe. John was stationed, among other places, in British Guinea, Bahrain, Malaya, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Libya and Aden. Much of this was in active service.
Towards the end of his wide ranging military career his most prestigious role was as an instructor at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst for three years. On retirement from the army he used his considerable energy to build up a portfolio of businesses in East Anglia, including property and farmland. He has bought and renovated many Public Houses, Inns and Hotels across the region since 1980.
He was the first person to open a Green Burial Ground in the East of England at Wrabness and has now similar partner sites in Surrey, Worcestershire and Suffolk. He is a very active member of the Community and is particularly interested in assisting with job creation in the Tendring area. He sees the Mayflower Project as being central to this ethos.
